It's a Guy Thing

Vision for Success

They say the journey of a thousand footsteps starts with one. Well, nobody just woke up a CEO, or famous, or as a leader of industry. No! Those titles are earned. Hard-won. But how exactly can you get from the couch to the sandy beaches of vacationing success? Simple. It’s called a vision board. It may seem silly, how’s writing something down, or drawing pictures on a piece of cardboard supposed to work? Well, it’s psychological and here’s how.

A vision board is a visual representation of where you see yourself in the years to come. It’s not just about what you want, but how you feel about getting there. By placing your vision board in a place you see every day and acknowledging it daily you reaffirm your goals. This works more in the subconscious. Picture yourself, in bed at night, then repeatedly thinking “I’m going to be the best, I’m going to be the best,” or “I can do this, I’ll do 1, 2, 3 to get X”. Your subconscious imprints the idea in your mind, hard-wiring you for success. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by author Brian Tracy says “Your subconscious mind makes everything you say and do fit a pattern consistent with your self-concept, your “master program.” This is why repeating positive affirmations are so effective — you can actually reprogram your own thought patterns by slipping in positive and success-oriented sound bites.” – briantracy.com

There are no rules to a vision board and using positive affirmations is a great way to improve the effectiveness. Goals aren’t always monetary. It could be personal goals, family goals or health and even individual or goals for your team at work. It’s also important to write down realistic goals and give them time-frames. That way, at the end of the year you can see the progress you’ve made which will surely motivate you to push harder.
