Living Her Dream!
Meet Jocelyn Binder, the muse, cancer survivor and lover of life.
So Jocelyn, could you tell us a bit about yourself? I am a silly nerd, really. I graduated from college on a full academic scholarship with honors. And I have dealt with cancer a few times over the last six years, but I am in remission now and I couldn’t appreciate each day more – or each photoshoot for that matter!
What was your initial reaction when you were chosen to shoot for FHM? I was super excited! I love how sexy FHM is and this editorial specifically, inspired by 60’s mod fashion, was a really unique concept.
How do you prepare for a shoot? I prepare for shoots by getting a good night’s sleep beforehand, hydrating, shaving, and having a meal before we start. Once I’m in hair and makeup and the set is being created, it gets too exciting to focus on my personal needs. Everything is about the images and the creative energy of collaboration distracts me… so I try to be sure I am rested, fed and sorted before getting to set.
Could you describe your perfect man? No one is perfect. That being said, an incredible man, in my opinion, is honest, positive, supportive and fun to be around! He takes good care of his mind and body so that he has more to give in the relationship. If you don’t take care of yourself, you cant give your all to others.
What would be your ideal date? An ideal date would definitely include a good meal and a nice atmosphere where we can chat and laugh. I’m all about being comfortable so everyone can be themselves.
What do you like to do for fun? I love to cuddle with my little Maltese Gigi, hang out with my family, and lately, I have been getting more into gardening and cooking!
Could you tell us a bit about your most embarrassing moment? For sure, it was a bikini fashion show in Miami. I had walked at this venue previously and the runway was black, but this time they had rearranged and the press box was further from the end of the runway. So when I made my quick glances down (since you’re supposed to be looking forward) I thought I still had a few steps to the end, but instead, I walked right off the end of the runway into a black hole… lol. I think the audience was more confused, like, “was that supposed to happen?” Cause I just vanished, basically. But my ankle was swollen for a week!
What would you say is the most difficult part about being a model? The most difficult part is definitely the competition. There is always someone taller, thinner, or younger than you who is waiting to take the gigs from you. So its all about maintaining your network, working hard, and maintaining yourself so that you are always on you’re a-game.
What are you most looking forward to doing this year? This year I am looking forward to more travel adventures and more events. I recently did an autograph signing event in Vegas and got to meet some of my fans and it really energized me for the things to come!
Lastly, what is your life motto or a quote that means a lot to you? My mantra, which I have tattooed on my ribs is, “I am happy. I am strong. I am free.” It used to say “Let me be”… happy, strong, free but I recently modified it because I realized that I don’t need to ask anyone’s permission to be those things.
